ACLU Hires Field Organizer In Shreveport
7.29.2010

Today the ACLU of Louisiana announces the hiring of Steven Jackson, a recent graduate of Grambling State University, as the organization's first staff member based outside of New Orleans. Jackson will represent the ACLU in advancing civil liberties in Shreveport, reflecting the organization's commitment to the Shreveport area.

Marjorie Esman, Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana, said "Having a staff presence in Shreveport will help the ACLU respond to civil liberties concerns in that part of the state. Steven is a great asset to the Shreveport area and to the ACLU and will make us more responsive problems arise in the Northwest corner of the state."

Jackson, who will serve as Field Organizer, may be contacted at la.aclu@yahoo.com and will be available to meet with community members and organizations with civil liberties concerns. "I'm excited about working with grassroots efforts throughout the city of Shreveport. We have a variety of socially motivated organizations here and I'm eager to work with all of them on civil liberties issues."

Funding for this position comes Carolyn W. and Charles T. Beaird Family Foundation, which for two years has supported the ACLU in its work in Shreveport.
