ORLEANS - Marjorie R. Esman has been named the Executive Director of
the ACLU of Louisiana. Esman, an attorney, worked for many years as a
volunteer cooperating attorney for the ACLU, was a member of the board of
directors of the ACLU of Louisiana, and served as its representative to the ACLU
national board for ten years.
Esman earned her law degree from
Tulane University in 1987. Prior to becoming an attorney, Esman earned a
Ph.D. in Anthropology, also from Tulane, focusing on ethnic revival among
Louisiana Cajuns.
"I consider it a privilege to work for the
protection of the rights of Louisianans, and I plan to reach out to as many
people as possible,” Esman said. “I hope to engage the public and our
government officials in a joint recognition of the value of the Bill of
Rights.”
