Following is a list of nominees for the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana. Those elected will serve terms beginning April 1, 2018. All nominees have been recommended by the Board Relations Committee.

Nominees' Statements:

GALEN BROWN (New Orleans): I worked at New Orleans Legal Services Corporation (“NOLAC”), the predecessor to Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, for nine years and was the Executive Director for four years. I worked in the New Orleans City Attorney’s Office under New Orleans’ first African-American Mayor, Ernest N. “Dutch” Morial, handling policy matters. I was a founder and first President of the Board of Directors of the Advocacy Center, which protects, empowers and advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities and senior citizens in Louisiana. My law practice has included class actions, civil rights and state and local government law. My broad knowledge of state and local governments provides a unique perspective to support the extension of constitutional protections to everyone.

JARED FRANK (New Orleans): I have lived in Louisiana for over fifteen years, residing in both Shreveport and New Orleans. During this time I have been able to witness the necessary and amazing work that the ACLU of Louisiana does across the state. I am passionate about constitutional and civil rights, and am excited to bring that energy and my knowledge of accounting and finance to this Board for an additional term in order to achieve our common goals.

JOSIE HASLE (New Orleans): I’ve been affiliated with the ACLU of Louisiana since 1977. Since the beginning of my tenure with the ACLU, my primary interests ranged from pro-choice rights to a strong commitment to First Amendment issues. The ACLU represents the opportunity for me to replenish the community well of citizenship. I do not believe citizenship is free. It must be constantly maintained. Working with the ACLU to protect the two most effective guardians of civil liberties and citizenship, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, is a remarkable endeavor. I hope you will allow me to continue as a board member.

JACQUES MORIAL (New Orleans): I’m a proud native New Orleanian and, for the past several years, I’ve worked as a public policy analyst, management consultant, and community organizer. In recent years my work has focused on environmental justice, criminal justice reform, government accountability, and citizen engagement, working to empower stakeholders with tools and information to act in their own best interests. I have been proud to support the values and work of the ACLU for the past 35 years, and would be honored to continue to serve on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Louisiana.

RON WILSON (New Orleans): I graduated Tulane Law School in May 1975 and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar that October. I’m licensed in Colorado, Oregon, N.Y., and D.C. and admitted before the U.S. Supreme Court. Since finishing law school, I’ve been in private practice – primarily public interest and civil rights litigation. I’m a cooperating attorney with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the ACLU. Since 2009, I’ve represented Louisiana on the ACLU National Board. I’ve forged alliances with board members from across the nation which have been, and will continue to be, beneficial respective to programs and policies in Louisiana.
