NEW ORLEANS - Marjorie R. Esman has been named the  Executive Director of the ACLU of Louisiana.  Esman, an attorney, worked for many years as a volunteer cooperating attorney for the ACLU, was a member of the board of directors of the ACLU of Louisiana, and served as its representative to the ACLU national board for ten years.  Esman earned her law degree from Tulane University in 1987.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Esman earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology, also from Tulane, focusing on ethnic revival among Louisiana Cajuns. 

"I consider it a privilege to work for the protection of the rights of Louisianans, and I plan to reach out to as many people as possible," Esman said.  "I hope to engage the public and our government officials in a joint recognition of the value of the Bill of Rights."
