The ACLU of Louisiana welcomes today's report by the US Department of Justice and its findings of patterns of unconsitutional conduct within the New Orleans Police Department.

The ACLU will continue to monitor the progress of the negotiations and the ultimate entry of the Consent Decree. These changes are long past due and, if properly implemented, should increase the safety of everyone in New Orleans. Good policing means respect for the law. It's time for the New Orleans Police Department to engage in the reforms that will uphold the law and protect the rights of the public.
