Melody Parker joined the ACLU of Louisiana in February 2023 as the first-ever Truth & Reconciliation Intern and tranistioned to the Truth & Reconcilation Project Manager in July 2023. Melody is from New Haven, Connecticut and received a BA in Economics and Ethnicity, Race, and Migration from Yale University. She is passionate about systems change and the radical redistribution of wealth.
Before working for the ACLU of Louisiana, Melody had experience working as a curatorial intern for the Peabody Museum of Natural History and as a research assistant for the Yale School of Management and the Tobin Center for Economic Policy. Through this work, she gained an appreciation for the role of narrative work and storytelling as well as data science and econometrics in studying social inequalities and policy.
Melody is excited to start her journey with the ACLU and is committed to making a difference for those impacted by incarceration through the Truth & Reconciliation initiative’s guaranteed income program. She is especially proud to be involved in this unprecedented model where the radical transfer of resources comes directly from descendants of enslavers to descendants of the enslaved.
