JUSTICE LAB: PUTTING RACIST POLICING ON TRIAL
Louisiana has the largest ratio of police officers to residents of any state and has the highest incarceration rate in the country. We are a microcosm of the structural flaws that plague this nation’s criminal “injustice” system. To put racist policing on trial and advance state-wide advocacy around divesting from police and reinvesting in social services, ACLU of Louisiana launched Justice Lab. Through Justice Lab we are leading more than 40 law firms and 18 law school legal clinics from across the country in marshaling their resources to bring legal actions intended to stop racially discriminatory policing practices. Our aim is to take hundreds of cases over the next several years, and to represent plaintiffs in every corner of the state. In addition, we are giving folks who we cannot represent the option to participate in a robust storytelling effort that advances our advocacy goals. Our aim is to establish a litigation, storytelling, and advocacy blueprint that centers directly impacted people for every other state in the nation.

If you have experienced racist policing in Louisiana we want to hear from you. Contact us at justicelab@laaclu.org or call 504-522-0628
