Kai Johnson

Title/Position

Yearlong Extern (Fall 2020/Spring 2021)

Kai was born and raised in Jackson, MS and she holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Columbia College of Columbia University in the City of New York. She is currently a rising 3L at Tulane University Law School. Before attending law school, Kai worked for three years for the U.S. House of Representatives and the Democratic Committee on Homeland Security conducting policy research and public relations as a legislative research assistant for Congressman Bennie G. Thompson of MS.  As a law student, she has clerked for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana under the Honorable Karen Wells Roby, Chief Magistrate Judge. She most recently interned with the Louisiana Center for Children's Rights conducting legal research on behalf of child defendants and with attorneys on the Juvenile Life Without Parole team. Kai is hoping to start her career in the fields of human rights law and public policy upon graduating from law school. She's excited and grateful to join the ACLU of Louisiana this school year, to work alongside fellow law clerks, and provide legal support to clients and staff toward promoting advocacy that is critical and that seeks to tackle contemporary issues for citizens in Louisiana.
