HOUMA – The ACLU of Louisiana has defeated qualified immunity for the fourth time. This time, against the Louisiana State Police (LSP), overcoming the enormous legal challenge in a lawsuit that also names the Houma Police Department and the Terrebonne Police Department.

COVINGTON – The ACLU of Louisiana has again defeated qualified immunity, an enormous legal challenge, in a lawsuit against the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office (STPSO) for racially profiling and harassing an unarmed Black man.

THIBODAUX – The ACLU of Louisiana and Fish & Richardson announced a settlement on behalf of Mr. Yohann Jackson, a Black man suffering from cerebral palsy who was violently detained by three Thibodaux police officers at his own home.

SHREVEPORT – The ACLU of Louisiana today announced a settlement on behalf of Mr. Brandon Kennedy, who was wrongfully attacked, arrested, and searched by Shreveport police after one of the officers overheard Mr. Kennedy speaking to another person about the Black Lives Matter movement.

NEW ORLEANS – The Department of Justice has concluded there is reasonable cause to believe that the Louisiana Department of Corrections routinely confines people in its custody past the dates when they are legally entitled to be released from custody, in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.
