The first week in October will decide civil rights in Louisiana for years to come.
Elections are top of mind lately, but before we vote in November, democracy itself will be on the line in federal court.
For over two years, the ACLU of Louisiana and our allies have been fighting to stop racial gerrymandering in Louisiana. Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a victory for voting rights in Alabama's redistricting lawsuit, Merrill v. Milligan. And now, starting on Tuesday, October 3, we're bringing the same fight back to federal court.

That same week, our team will bring the fight against police brutality to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, arguing two Justice Lab cases. That includes Brown v. Pouncy on Wednesday, October 4, which challenges Louisiana's one-year statute of limitations for civil rights cases – the most restrictive law in the nation.
